a choreographic work by Rachel Orji created in collaboration with dancers

Performers:
Naja Payoute, Olivia Eaton, Kiara Braswell,
Kayla Ricketts, Deziah Thomas, Amira Mumford, Nini Taylor

This work is an investigation of sonic liveness. Sonic liveness is the way in which music enlivens a space and as a result, enlivens the bodies inhabiting that space. When a body is enlivened it produces a response (movement) to the thing enlivening it, giving that liveness back to it or passing it on to someone else. I was interested in showing off the various ways a human body could attempt to both respond to and align itself with music. I wanted my dancers to embody the vast and layered soundscapes they were moving to through the visualization of music as an engine and the dancing body as a vehicle.
